Who is it for?

This qualification is for individuals:

  • entering a management role, or
  • who wish to gain a qualification that formally recognises their skills, or
  • those who lead a team and are responsible for its performance


See units listed below. Students are assigned a designated assessor who will visit them at their workplace to carry out assessments, monitor their progress, set targets and offer support.

What units must be achieved?

To achieve a full Level 2 NVQ Certificate in team leading, a minimum of 17 credits must be achieved. 10 credits must be achieved from the mandatory units and 7 credits from the optional units.

Mandatory units

Unit: CU855 Manage personal development 4 credits

Unit: CU856 Develop working relationships with colleagues 3 credits

Unit: CU857 Communicate information and knowledge 3 credits

Optional units
The assessor will carry out a skillscan with the student in their workplace to  identify the best optional units for them to undertake.  The final decision will be agreed between the student, their employer and their assessor.


The course duration varies depending on:

  • the student’s prior experience, knowledge and qualifications
  • how long the student can be released for training
  • the amount of time the student can dedicate to the course work
  • whether the course is being followed as part of an apprenticeship

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. If the qualification is being completed as part of an apprenticeship then entry requirements will apply


Apprenticeship funding is available for this course. Students’ eligibility will be assessed on application. If the student is not eligible for funding, the cost of the course is £700 including VAT


On completion of this course students can progress on to the Level 3 NVQ Certificate/Diploma in Management.
