Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing)
Skills are developed by practicing in a commercial salon with genuine clients during the working day. The apprentice also undertakes off-the-job training sessions. To complete the qualification, students must demonstrate competence across a variety of mandatory and optional tasks which include those listed below.
Greeting clients, hair consultations, shampoo and condition, cut hair using a variety of techniques, style and finish, colour and lighten, safe working practices
Perming, hair relaxation techniques, hair extensions
• Apprentices are employed by a local salon and receive a wage
• Training is a mix of practice on-the-job, and off-the-job training
• After completion, students can progress onto an advanced apprenticeship in hairdressing
• Tutors from Mode provide ongoing support and assessment to students throughout their course, and this includes additional training in English and Maths if necessary
Costs and funding
This apprenticeship costs £3000. The costs of training and assessment are paid for in full with government funding for 16 to 18 year olds. Costs are also covered for 19 to 24 year olds with an Education Health & Care Plan. There is a contribution from employers for apprentices who fall out of these categories. The course can also be paid for privately.
